Mobiele UPS 1600kVA Luminus Solutions

Luminus Solutions is launching a new mobile UPS installation that can protect electrical loads of up to 3200 kVA. With this, the company is responding to the growing demand for temporary and scalable power security for data centres and other mission-critical environments.

Data centres operate non-stop, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When maintaining electrical systems, renewing infrastructure or dealing with grid problems, temporary additional power supply security is crucial. A continuous power supply is not a luxury here, but a strategic necessity. Hospitals, airports and high-tech industries face the same challenges.

To meet this need, Luminus Solutions has built a new 1600 kVA mobile UPS (MUPS) based on a rotating HITEC PowerPro 1800 system. Together with an existing unit of the same type, the company will soon be able to offer 3200 kVA of full UPS power – the highest mobile power available on the European market.

“We are seeing a sharp rise in demand for temporary, high-quality UPS systems, particularly in the data centre sector,” says Patrick Steegmans, Business Unit Director Power Quality. “Customers want to be able to switch quickly during planned overhauls or grid upgrades. Temporary installations of this size are virtually impossible to find today.”

Rotating UPS as a robust alternative to battery systems

Luminus Solutions has deliberately opted for a rotary UPS instead of a battery-based system. “Rotary systems take up less space, avoid chemical waste and perform better in mobile applications,” explains Dieter Backx, Project Manager. “This is a major advantage, especially for temporary installations in hard-to-reach locations or outdoors.”

The installation consists of a reinforced container with acoustic insulation, vibration dampers, an integrated day tank and a ventilation system. The dry cooler, electrical cabinet and main tank are added modularly and assembled on site, allowing for a flexible setup.

“With this configuration, we can be operational in a short time and deliver up to 3200 kVA UPS power via a parallel connection of two similar units,” says Backx.

Plug-and-play power security for digital infrastructure

The new MUPS installation is clearly aimed at temporary assignments for digital and industrial infrastructure. Think of network upgrades, data centre migrations, temporary redundancy during critical upgrades or bridging delays in permanent installations.

“Data centres are evolving rapidly,” says Steegmans. “Our customers are expanding, restructuring or switching to new energy concepts. In this context, temporary power security is not a luxury but a prerequisite for ensuring business continuity.”

Thanks to its modular design, the installation can be deployed quickly and easily throughout Europe for short or longer rental periods.
