Geothermal energy

The earth beneath our feet is full of heat. Heat that can be put to good use. That is called geothermal energy.

A sustainable and circular form of heat supply in which heat is extracted from the earth to be delivered to the desired temperature via a heat pump. This heat can then be used to heat buildings or produce domestic hot water. The cooled water is pumped back into the subsoil where it can reheat. In the summer period, cold can then also be extracted from the earth to provide cooling.

This can be done in two ways:

  • Shallow geothermal: this involves installing a horizontal pipe system over a large area just below the ground
  • Deep geothermal energy: here, the pipe system is inserted deeper into the underground by means of deep vertical drillings
