Two buildings in Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve approach CO2 neutrality thanks to thorough energy renovation

What was our approach?
On behalf of the city of Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve, we carried out an ambitious energy renovation of the Blocry school. This energy performance contract (EPC), part of the RenoWatt programme, aims to make the school more energy-efficient and eventually even carbon-neutral. The renovation included:
- Roof and facade renovation: over 3,000 m² of roofing renewed, facade insulation with sustainable materials such as wood, fibre cement and trespa panels.
- New windows: installation of aluminium windows with double glazing and motorised blinds.
- Biomass heating system: replacement of the old system with a sustainable biomass heating system.
- Modern ventilation system: installation of ventilation with double air flow and heat recovery.Photovoltaic panels: installation of solar panels with a total capacity of 143 kWp.
What was the result?
- 42% reduction in primary energy consumption (-475 MWh/year)
- 65% reduction in CO₂ emissions (-147 tonnes/year)
- Full CO₂ neutrality thanks to renewable energy production
- Increased comfort through improved air quality and temperature control
