In April 2024, Luminus Solutions signed a four-year energy performance contract (EPC) with the municipality of Courcelles. This ambitious partnership aims to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in school buildings by 15%, while improving the comfort of students, teachers, and visitors. The project focuses on two schools in Trazegnies: Sart-lez-Moulin and l’Yser.

Well-planned renovations to minimise inconvenience

blankUnderstanding the importance of safety and well-being for children, Luminus Solutions has scheduled all work exclusively during school holidays. The first phase, carried out during the autumn break of 2024, has already delivered significant improvements.

The old gas boilers were replaced by modern condensing boilers. In the Sart-lez-Moulin school, the classrooms were fitted with new radiators to replace the outdated gas convectors. In addition, heat pumps were installed in the playground sanitary facilities. And in both schools, an intelligent control and monitoring system now ensures optimal management of energy consumption, both during and outside school hours.

Towards a sustainable and exemplary school

These renovations, aligned with modern sustainability standards, are part of a long-term vision to make municipal school infrastructure more environmentally friendly. Caroline Taquin, Mayor of Courcelles, emphasizes the project’s impact: “This initiative not only translates into significant energy savings but also a clear reduction in CO2 emissions. Schools are where we must lead by example.”

The next phase, scheduled for the Easter holidays of 2025, will involve replacing the exterior joinery at Sart-lez-Moulin, further enhancing the buildings’ insulation and energy efficiency.

With this project, Luminus Solutions reaffirms its role as a key partner for local authorities, combining technical expertise with innovative solutions to build a greener and more comfortable future. Courcelles is positioning itself as a role model in sustainable school infrastructure.
