Luminus Solutions builds new CHP unit for CHR de la Haute Senne

In February 2026, Luminus Solutions secured the contract for the turnkey integration of a new CHP unit at the Centre Hospitalier Régional de la Haute Senne in Soignies. This project was the result of a thorough feasibility study and highlights the continued relevance of CHP technology in the energy transition: the hospital achieves significant energy savings and improved efficiency, with limited CO2 emissions. The Centre Hospitalier Régional de la Haute Senne (CHRHS) in Soignies has made strong efforts in recent years to improve energy efficiency. Through an ambitious program of energy-saving measures, the hospital succeeded in significantly reducing its energy consumption. These efforts also created a new opportunity: due to the achieved savings, the existing boiler room had become oversized, leaving room for the integration of a combined heat and power unit. Our new 1600kVA mobile UPS can run on renewable HVO fuel and is ready for the future. At Luminus Solutions, we continuously explore how to align our solutions with the sustainability goals of our customers. One such possibility is the use of HVO as an alternative to conventional diesel in our dynamic rotary UPS systems (DRUPS) and mobile UPS solutions (MUPS). What is HVO and why is it interesting? HVO stands for “Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil”, a synthetic, renewable diesel produced from vegetable oils and residual fats. Unlike traditional fossil diesel, HVO contains almost no sulphur or aromatics, resulting in cleaner combustion. That makes it an attractive fuel for applications where reliability and sustainability must go hand in hand. Luminus Solutions launches the biggest mobile UPS available in Europe

Luminus Solutions is launching a new mobile UPS installation that can protect electrical loads of up to 3200 kVA. With this, the company is responding to the growing demand for temporary and scalable power security for data centres and other mission-critical environments. Data centres operate non-stop, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When maintaining electrical systems, renewing infrastructure or dealing with grid problems, temporary additional power supply security is crucial. A continuous power supply is not a luxury here, but a strategic necessity. Hospitals, airports and high-tech industries face the same challenges. To meet this need, Luminus Solutions has built a new 1600 kVA mobile UPS (MUPS) based on a rotating HITEC PowerPro 1800 system. New CHP Installation Commissioned at Antwerp University Hospital

At the end of August, the new combined heat and power (CHP) installation at Antwerp University Hospital (UZA) was officially commissioned. Ten years after installing the hospital’s first CHP system, Luminus Solutions has fully renewed and optimized the installation, ensuring efficient and sustainable heat and power production for the next decade. A Pioneer in Sustainable Energy For many years, UZA has been a frontrunner in sustainability. Back in 2015, the hospital invested in an energy-efficient CHP installation, complementing earlier initiatives such as an energy-neutral building and a geothermal BEO field. The original 1560 kWe system, designed and installed by Luminus Solutions, included heat storage and flue gas heat recovery. It enabled the hospital to increase its heat production while significantly reducing energy consumption and related costs. Luminus Solutions also upgraded the domestic hot water system, further improving overall efficiency. Together, these measures delivered annual energy savings of around 30%. In recent years, we have implemented two new CHP (Combined Heat and Power) projects for the hospital group Vivalia, at its sites in Arlon and Marche-en-Famenne. With these investments, Vivalia is not only focusing on energy efficiency, but also on reducing CO₂ emissions and achieving financially viable operations. Vivalia is a hospital group in the province of Luxembourg, with several sites including the hospitals in Arlon and Marche-en-Famenne. For its energy projects, the group was looking for a reliable partner with solid CHP expertise and a strong understanding of the specific needs of a hospital environment. Based on our long-standing cooperation with the Arlon site, our technical know-how and tailored solutions, we responded to Vivalia’s tender for a new installation in Marche-en-Famenne. Luminus Solutions renews CHP installations at Kaneka: more efficient, more reliable, and future-proof

We recently commissioned the renewed combined heat and power (CHP) installations at Kaneka Belgium’s site in Oevel. This successful continuation of our collaboration with the chemical company proves that CHP technology remains a logical and cost-effective choice for energy-intensive companies that are committed to efficiency and sustainability—even in a changing subsidy landscape. Our partnership with Kaneka began over ten years ago with an initial feasibility study and the realization of a twin CHP installation of 2 x 2 MWe with steam generator. Since its commissioning in 2015, we have also provided full maintenance services. The system has consistently delivered excellent performance, with an electrical efficiency of 43%, thermal efficiency of 33%, and steam efficiency of 16%. Renewal of the biogas CHP at Alken-Maes

At the beginning of 2024, the biogas combined heat and power (CHP) system at the Alken-Maes brewery site was successfully replaced. The original installation, in operation since 2012, had reached its maximum operating hours and was replaced with a new, more efficient CHP solution. Alken-Maes is a Belgian brewing group that has been part of The Heineken Company since 2008.

The project aligns with the city’s climate ambitions and was developed as part of the RenoWatt program by Wallonie Entreprendre. The objective is to significantly improve the building’s energy efficiency, reduce its ecological footprint, and enhance user comfort. The city of Sambreville has long maintained a visionary and determined approach to combating global warming. Through a structured renovation plan, investments in energy projects have been ongoing for over 15 years, making the renovation of the town hall a perfect fit for this vision. Luminus Solutions has recently signed a contract with the Province of Namur for the energy renovation of seven provincial welfare centers. This partnership falls under the RenoWatt program of Wallonie Entreprendre and marks an important step in the climate ambitions of the Province of Namur. The work will commence shortly—a promising outlook for the staff, users… and the planet. To become (almost) climate-neutral by 2030, the province has decided to improve the energy performance of its buildings, including investing in the renovation of seven welfare centers. In February 2023, the RenoWatt purchasing body was appointed to initiate and manage the contract. This involved preparing the tender documents and finalizing an energy performance contract, which was awarded to Luminus Solutions. Ambitious Renovations for More Comfort and Well-being As part of this contract, Luminus Solutions will undertake significant work on the buildings’ envelopes (facade insulation, roofing, window frames) as well as upgrades to lighting, ventilation, acoustic, and heating systems.
