The energy transition requires more than just generating renewable energy. It calls for smart energy management: the right energy, at the right time, in the right place. That is why we are expanding our offering with integrated solutions that put flexibility at the centre. By intelligently combining different technologies, we help industrial companies, healthcare institutions and public organisations make their energy supply more sustainable, more reliable and more profitable. Why flexibility is becoming increasingly important The energy market is changing fundamentally. Renewable energy sources such as solar and wind are, by definition, intermittent: they do not always generate power exactly when demand occurs. This requires a different way of thinking about energy: no longer only about production and consumption, but also about timing and balance. Organisations that can handle their energy flows flexibly create not only efficiency, but also new opportunities: Cost reduction by responding smartly to price fluctuations and avoiding peak demand Optimal use of your own renewable generation New revenue streams by making capacity available to the electricity grid Improved energy security and business continuity Integrated solutions for flexible energy management Flexibility does not come from a single technology, but from the smart combination and integration of different […]

In February 2026, Luminus Solutions secured the contract for the turnkey integration of a new CHP unit at the Centre Hospitalier Régional de la Haute Senne in Soignies. This project was the result of a thorough feasibility study and highlights the continued relevance of CHP technology in the energy transition: the hospital achieves significant energy savings and improved efficiency, with limited CO2 emissions. The Centre Hospitalier Régional de la Haute Senne (CHRHS) in Soignies has made strong efforts in recent years to improve energy efficiency. Through an ambitious program of energy-saving measures, the hospital succeeded in significantly reducing its energy consumption. These efforts also created a new opportunity: due to the achieved savings, the existing boiler room had become oversized, leaving room for the integration of a combined heat and power unit. From feasibility study to implementation After an extensive feasibility study, which examined the hospital’s energy needs and explored various scenarios for their technical and financial viability, a CHP installation of 125 kWe was initially dimensioned, optimally aligned with the hospital’s energy demand after the implemented efficiency measures. One of the main challenges of this project was integrating the CHP unit into the limited space of the existing boiler […]

More and more companies are focusing on sustainability, energy efficiency, and reducing their CO2 emissions. Critical power supply is also part of this transition. Our new 1600kVA mobile UPS can run on renewable HVO fuel and is ready for the future. At Luminus Solutions, we continuously explore how to align our solutions with the sustainability goals of our customers. One such possibility is the use of HVO as an alternative to conventional diesel in our dynamic rotary UPS systems (DRUPS) and mobile UPS solutions (MUPS). What is HVO and why is it interesting? HVO stands for “Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil”, a synthetic, renewable diesel produced from vegetable oils and residual fats. Unlike traditional fossil diesel, HVO contains almost no sulphur or aromatics, resulting in cleaner combustion. That makes it an attractive fuel for applications where reliability and sustainability must go hand in hand. Even more important: over its entire life cycle, HVO emits up to 90% less CO2 than regular diesel. A significant difference, especially for systems with a lifespan of over 25 years. HVO offers clear advantages even when compared to conventional biodiesel. Whereas biodiesel is usually used in blends and may require modifications or additional maintenance to engines at […]

Luminus Solutions is launching a new mobile UPS installation that can protect electrical loads of up to 3200 kVA. With this, the company is responding to the growing demand for temporary and scalable power security for data centres and other mission-critical environments. Data centres operate non-stop, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When maintaining electrical systems, renewing infrastructure or dealing with grid problems, temporary additional power supply security is crucial. A continuous power supply is not a luxury here, but a strategic necessity. Hospitals, airports and high-tech industries face the same challenges. To meet this need, Luminus Solutions has built a new 1600 kVA mobile UPS (MUPS) based on a rotating HITEC PowerPro 1800 system. Together with an existing unit of the same type, the company will soon be able to offer 3200 kVA of full UPS power – the highest mobile power available on the European market. “We are seeing a sharp rise in demand for temporary, high-quality UPS systems, particularly in the data centre sector,” says Patrick Steegmans, Business Unit Director Power Quality. “Customers want to be able to switch quickly during planned overhauls or grid upgrades. Temporary installations of this size are virtually impossible to […]

At the end of August, the new combined heat and power (CHP) installation at Antwerp University Hospital (UZA) was officially commissioned. Ten years after installing the hospital’s first CHP system, Luminus Solutions has fully renewed and optimized the installation, ensuring efficient and sustainable heat and power production for the next decade. A Pioneer in Sustainable Energy For many years, UZA has been a frontrunner in sustainability. Back in 2015, the hospital invested in an energy-efficient CHP installation, complementing earlier initiatives such as an energy-neutral building and a geothermal BEO field. The original 1560 kWe system, designed and installed by Luminus Solutions, included heat storage and flue gas heat recovery. It enabled the hospital to increase its heat production while significantly reducing energy consumption and related costs. Luminus Solutions also upgraded the domestic hot water system, further improving overall efficiency. Together, these measures delivered annual energy savings of around 30%. A New Generation of CHP After ten years of reliable operation, the installation had reached its maximum number of running hours. Although CHP certificate support is no longer available, UZA remains convinced of the technology’s economic and ecological value. The hospital therefore launched a new tender for the replacement and optimization […]

We recently commissioned the renewed combined heat and power (CHP) installations at Kaneka Belgium’s site in Oevel. This successful continuation of our collaboration with the chemical company proves that CHP technology remains a logical and cost-effective choice for energy-intensive companies that are committed to efficiency and sustainability—even in a changing subsidy landscape. Our partnership with Kaneka began over ten years ago with an initial feasibility study and the realization of a twin CHP installation of 2 x 2 MWe with steam generator. Since its commissioning in 2015, we have also provided full maintenance services. The system has consistently delivered excellent performance, with an electrical efficiency of 43%, thermal efficiency of 33%, and steam efficiency of 16%. When the original CHP units began to reach the end of their technical lifespan, Kaneka turned to Luminus Solutions once again for a full renewal. Their renewed trust is a clear sign of the mutual confidence we’ve built over the years in this long-term partnership. CHP remains a smart investment Although the Flemish support scheme for major modifications to CHP units was recently discontinued, there are still compelling reasons to invest in this technology. CHP continues to offer significant primary energy savings—over 25% compared […]
